The monstrous being is the deadly alter-ego of the harmless, yet gold-munching, Goldmerch. When a Goldmerch has been denied its favored food, it will, in the words of one observer, "totally flip out and start tearing people's chests off." The Fleshreaper is a vicious dun being hungry for revenge and torsos, and is not to be trifled with.

 

The key to avoiding the ire of a Fleshreaper is, simply, to not draw the attention of a Goldmerch, so that it doesn't get its expectations too high.
