Indie'Ahns

A race descended from Men, the Indie'Ahns were the original inhabitants of the Indie'Ahna Prairie. They are a nomadic peoples, who navigated the grasslands of the Prairie, following their main source of food, Buffaloaf. The Indie'Ahns use Buffaloaf skins and bones to make much of their living neccessities. They rarely make clothes out of Buffaloaf skins, instead buying purposely bad clothing from other settlements, in some strange attempt to constantly mock the styles of the surrounding cultures while wearing them at the same time. They are especially fond of tweed blazers and clothing featuring archanic runes that nobody comprehends anymore.

The rare members of their tribes who posess the Knack are worshipped as priests, who often adopt Humble Mice as familiars.

Indie'Ahns are often characterized for their love of music. However, nobody knows what exactly the music of their people entails. They will often try to engage others in conversation about their obscure music, and get a feeling of extreme joy when nobody understands what they're talking about. This has led many to suspect that they do not actually have any music at all, but are playing an elaborate joke on the rest of the Shield. They purposely eschew anything that is popular, even if the popularity is warranted or not. Many suspect this is nothing less than a calculated attempt at angering everyone they come in contact with.

The Indie'Ahns often claim to all be unique, and to despise conformity, but this group effort to lash out at conformity only means that outsiders can rarely tell one Indie'Ahn from another. They are constantly at war with the Selowts, a race of creatures that don't appear to actually exist, but are supposedly horrid aquatic beasts who live in a river called The Mainstream. According to Indie'Ahn legend, the Selowts are responsible for Bubbly Pop Music, which is toxic to all Indie'Ahns.

Notable Indie'Ahns include Jones of Indie'Ahna; adventurer who featured prominently in Book 6, and Princess Flaming Lips; inventor of lip balm; and Co'ner the Bright Eyed.
