Invisigoths

Originally believed to be a race of fearsome invisible giants, the Invisigoths were eventually proven to be a quiet, frail tribe of invisible humans with a fondness for unrhymed poetry, unmelodic music, and spica cigarettes. Generation after generation of deliberate spica exposure is believed responsible for their invisibility, as well as their high incidence of spontaneous bleeding.

By the time the true nature of the Invisigoths was discerned in the year 787, the kingdom of Parsonya had nearly bankrupted itself building defenses against the imagined threat of invisible pillagers.
