Sorcerer

A magic-user who lacks the Knack for Elemenstation. Despite not being an Elemenstor, a sorcerer is nonetheless a student of Magic. Sorceror's craft is, essentially some form of Low Elemenstation; there are far many more sorcerers than Elemenstors, as sorcery can be learned by anyone willing enough to put up with the effort. In fact, many Elemenstors have misinterpreted their own abilities, and underwent the training as Sorcerers. A few of these stubbornly confused students with the Knack have clung to their training, becoming what is known as a Sorcer'lier, or (as they style themselves) True Sorcerer.

A Sorcerer is a person skilled in the power of sorcery, and a caster of spells. They are often considered inferior to Elemenstors because casting spells tires the mind. A member of the Eagles Magi Council estimated the percentage of the non-peasant population of Battal who have some skill in Sorcery at 70%. The Eagle did not specify how much magical ability was required to count as one of the 70%. Certainly, most residents of Battal with the means and opportunity learn how to cast some basic spells, but instruction in the techniques and knowledge required to invent new spells or cast advanced spells is hard to find and takes many years of dedicated study.

The effects of repeated spell casting on the caster include blurred vision, hallucination, irritability, impatience, dizziness, confusion, decreased reaction time, slurred speech, headaches, fainting, general drowsiness and, in extreme cases, coma.

See a List of Spells for the myriad spells practiced by sorcerers.

not sure that this is true about low elemenstation because I'm pretty sure that this still involves elemanifestations (just not really knowing what you're doing), where as knackless sorcerors just use magic
