Welcome Day used to be a holiday of special significance, and was celebrated in the home by gathering around a wheel of specially prepared cheese and devouring it. However, the celebratory practice was so enjoyed that people began celebrating Welcome Day pretty much any time there was welcoming to be done, and the origins of the holiday and its importance have been lost to time.
